Description
Chevron’s F2 B48 was based on the monocoque of the B42 but incorporated revised aerodynamics and suspension by Tony Southgate to incorporate ground effects. This is chassis number B48-08-79 which was run by the factory for Patrick Galliard in 1979. It is also believed to have been driven as a development car by Riccardo Patrese at the end of season Macau event in 1978.
The B48 was subsequently raced by Eddie Jordan and Brian Robinson, who eventually converted it to a Donington GT car with a Lotus Espirit body. The car then found success in speed events, where it was converted back to a single seater, fitted with a V8 and won several class awards and also FTD at the Shelsley Walsh classic meeting.
The Chevron’s impressive specification includes a JE Engineering 5. 0 Rover V8 on down-draught Dellortos, FG gearbox and slicks and wets on Dymag wheels. With impressive power and torque the car is highly entertaining to drive and still represents a competitive proposition for classic hillclimbs.
Complete with 5 spare ratios, running spares, MSA log-book and a detailed history file reflecting the significant sums spent on converting and maintaining this lovely example. Great value for money, and could be converted back to F2.
