The Austin Healey 100/ 4 was produced from 1953 until 1956. Developed by Donald Healey and based on the A90 Atlantic. The car was built by Jensen Motors and named Austin Healey 100. The model name 100 was for the reason that it could go 100 miles per hour. The first model of Austin Healey 100 was called BN1 and that is the car we have for sale here.
Exterior: The Austin Healey 100/ 4 is the kind of car that people cannot help but staring at when it drives by. Painted in the Austin Healey race car colour “Ice Green Metallic “ with a slightly darker tone of green on the leather. The complete restoration of this car was done between 2011-2016. It involves everything on this car! Starting out with a complete new chassis from Kilmartin in Australia, well known for the best chassis for these cars. All the work done on this Austin Healey was carried out by Bart van Tiggelen (100 Healey’s) in The Netherlands. The Austin Healey BN1 is today rolling on a set of chrome spoke wire wheels fitted with Michelin tyres. The underneath of this Austin Healey is as clean and shiny as the top. All doors, hood and trunk opens and close with ease and the car has perfect panel fit.
Interior: The cabin in an Austin Healey 100 BN1 is rather small but cosy. When you slip in behind the steering wheel, the first thing you see is one of the most beautiful instrument panels you will have ever seen in a classic car. The instruments look like new and are all doing their work. New leather and carpets. A complete weather kit with soft top, tonau cover and side screens are with the car. The trunk area has new carpets and here you find the original jack, tools and spare wheel.

Engine: The Austin Healey 100 engine was rebuilt in 2009 and then upgraded to Le Mans specification and fitted with a new aluminium cylinder head from Dennis Welch. It has been dyno tested and optimized to 138hp and has a very good torque making this just over 1000-kg light car a lot of fun to drive considering it is from 1954. Other upgrades done to this Austin Healey BN1 are brakes, gearbox and rear end from a BN2. Other than these deviations from the original, a great effort has been put into making the restoration in every possible way as true to the original cars as possible. Bart van Tiggelen had at least 10 other early Austin Healy 100 cars as reference while restoring this car. After a restoration like this, there is always a certain drive in period. So, later on the starter was replaced by a modern stronger type to ensure safe start every time. Just like the two 6v batteries that had to be replaced for a more powerful 12v. It has taken about 6, 000 km to bring the car into a perfect mechanical state. A condition where you can truly trust and use it without any worries of braking down. The last thing done in 2022 was a full rebuild of the 4-speed gearbox and a service.
History: This Austin Healey 100/ 4 was actually sold new in Sweden. For some reason, they managed to sell surprisingly many here considering how many they were built. It comes with a very nice history folder with all previous owners documented in a chronological order. All the invoices from this vast restoration are available and the restoration was also thoroughly photo-documented. The original equipment is with the car such as tonau, jack, spare and tools. This is a car from 1954 that has been given a new life. You cannot go back in time, but at least now you can experience what Donald Healey wanted the Austin Healey 100 to be like in 1954.
