Description
This lot will be auctioned via Silverstone Auctions, Devitt MCN Festival of Motorcycling Sale 2023 on Sunday the 14th of May, East of England Arena, Peterborough, PE2 6XE.
Built in c. 1949 by Ernie Earles using a hand-built aluminium frame and 250cc OHC Manxman engine
Raced by Jack Sparrow in the early 1950s to some success at the Isle of Man TT
Results were 1951-15th, 1952-21st, 1953-Retired, 1954-16th
Bought by TT legend Bill Smith in 1955 who then competed on it at various events throughout the 1950's
The engine is believed to be a Works engine
Formed part of a private collection for last few years
Features in the Paul Ingham book "Excelsior The Racing Years"
Not run for some time so will require some recommissioning before use
