1990 MG Metro 1300 having undergone a total nut and bolt restoration now in quite remarkable condition. As near new as is possible to get, the level of detail, fit and finish on this wonderful car is a joy to behold.
Finished in the original British Racing Green, the bodywork has been stripped back to bare metal and all rust and rot removed. In house bespoke replacement sections and repair panels were made and welded into place seamlessly to produce a factory finish. Where required, good used outer bolt on panels were sourced and fitted to provide a faultless complete shell.
Following the panelling and expert gapping of the body, the car was shaped up to pin sharp using modern materials, and then was subject to a paint process including epoxy, spray filler, primer, base coat and lacquer. The car was blocked down after every process and finished to a show standard with a final machine buff and hand polish. New decals were applied and the car apears as it would have in a 1990s Rover dealer showroom.
Underneath, all components were removed and stripped, cleaned off and painted. New bushes, bearings, brakes, steering and a full set of new hydrolastic units were fitted a round. There is a complete new exhaust system and the A Series lattice alloy wheels have been shod with Yokohama A539s
The engine was stripped and rebuilt as required and detailed as appropriate with paint or plating. Some non standard aesthetic touches have been added over and above originality but nothing to detract from the value of an original example.
Interior is original with some unavoidable signs of age, but all in all, the cabin is a pleasant environment in very good condition. Everything works as it should, the seats are supportive and the usual tatty headlining has been replaced with an original style kit.
So driving the MG Metro is a definite throwback to a simpler time. No power steering and slightly bigger tyres make slow manoevering a little strenuous, but once rolling the Metro cries out to be hurried through the gears feeling a lot faster than it actually is and handling like a roller skate, ity puts a smile on your face immediately and other road users seem to enjoy seeing it too.
No expense has been spared to get this MG Metro to the highest possible restored standard and as such we think it is easily amongst the best example out there.
It is expensive, but we think it's worth it - and if it is too much for you, then we will not be too disappointed to keep it and use it through the summers until it inevitably reaches our valuation.
