This beautifully presented Mercedes Benz 280SL has covered just 75, 000 miles from new and comes with its original manuals and service book, original spare wheel tool kit including beautifully presented original complete tool roll and factory first aid kit still in its original packaging. The SL has an impressive service history with stamps at 1022, 6090, 10381, 17503, 26527, 30578, 37735, 44235, 48400, 55100, 57929, 59681, 62810, 67874, 71661 and 73636 miles. MOT’s with the car date back to 1991 and service receipts and several old V5’s make up a comprehensive history folder.
The Mercedes Benz was supplied new by Sunningdale Carriage Co Ltd in Berkshire, finished in Champagne and supplied new to a Middle East businessman and Investment Company Chairman who registered the car to his UK address at Hyde Park Gardens, London W2 who ordered the car with an impressive spec to include air-conditioning, MB Tex trim rather than cloth, cruise control, headlamp wash wipe, desirable rear seat option and alloy wheels. The second owner was South African born test cricket captain turned commentator, Anthony William Grieg who from 1975 to 1977 captained England and Sussex. He was thought by many former players and pundits to have been one of England's leading international all-rounders. Following the end of his career, he emigrated to Australia and became a commentator. By 1989 the Mercedes Benz made its way to South Wales, and this is where the car remained up to 2020 when it sold to a classic car enthusiast in Sussex.

During the cars time in Wales it was regularly on the show scene and having had a lady owner for ten years from 2001 to 2011, the SL then spent nine years with a retired Mercedes Benz enthusiast who covered 4000 miles in the car. The mileage was taken to 72000 during his ownership and on initial purchase he spent £3000 to take the car to his standards. Good quality maintenance continued with new brake calipers, a new filter and gasket for the automatic gearbox and remedial paintwork to keep the car looking in first class condition. The SL came to us in 2022 for the first time and we soon sold it to one of our regular clients who resides between Hong Kong and Edinburgh. On collection of the car last summer, it was driven from North Yorkshire to the Fife Arms in the Cairngorms National Park, over six hours of comfortable touring and over 300 miles without hesitation. The SL was then driven down to Edinburgh and later returned to us for storage. Now our client will be spending significantly less time in the UK and has asked us to market the car and find a new home.

The SL arrived back with us in excellent condition. It is a very strong, largely original car with excellent history and a lovely mileage. This has always been a garaged car with owners who have clearly maintained it with no expense spared. The Mercedes Benz is excellent on the road, is first class to drive and does not disappoint. The bodywork is first class throughout with a gleaming paint finish and high quality chrome, and the original upholstery has a lovely, clean original look and feel to it. With hard top and recently replaced soft top, this is a fine example ideal for some enjoyable summer weekend cruising.
