Description
The P6 was launched in 1963 and promptly won car of the year. It was an advanced design with panels that bolted onto a base unit, disc brakes on all four wheels and De-Dion tube rear suspension. The single carburettor version was joined by the TC in 1966 and then in 1968 Rover installed a modified version of the lightweight “Buick” 3500 V8. The manual “S” version had a top speed of over 120mph, a 0-60 time of 10 seconds and 24mpg economy.
This car is a 1973 Rover P6 3500S in Almond with black “box-pleat” interior. The mileage is correct at 50, 000 from new due to a long period off the road from 1988 (when it had covered 44, 000 miles) until 2019.
It was restored by its last owner in 2018/ 19, including replacing the inner sills and jacking points, a professional re-paint and various new replacement parts including four brake callipers, four tyres, electronic distributor, water pump, stainless exhaust system, shock-absorbers, radiator, re-chromed bumpers and carpet set. He used the car for the next four years, covering 6, 000 miles before selling it to us due to a change in personal circumstances. We have just carried out a long list of further cosmetic and mechanical jobs including an engine service. It runs, drives and presents in simply beautiful condition and is ready to use. The paint, body and underside are all excellent and the interior is in smart order. This is not a concourse car, there are some minor cosmetic flaws but it is excellent and has benefitted from very substantial expenditure over the last few years.
