1932 Nash 998 Phaeton: The Series 990 was the top-of-the-line Nash for 1931. The first-series 990 was introduced June I, 1931, superseded by the second-series 1090 March 1, 1932. The 990 engine is a twin-ignition OHV straight eight, 298. 6 ci built on a 133-inch wheelbase. The body style 998 phaeton was $1, 595 factory priced. The main thing to understand is the open phaeton was no longer popular with the buying public as closed sedan prices were either parity or lower priced than open styles. The 7-passenger phaeton would have been extremely low production. Unfortunately, actual Nash production numbers for those years are lost. Rarity in this case makes this Nash phaeton among the most desirable to collectors now. This car could be the sole survivor 998 phaeton extant. (The Standard Catalog of American Cars: 1946-1975,)

This 1932 Nash 998 Phaeton was the first Nash to be accepted by the CCCA as a full classic. Tom used the car regularly for rallys and it has had 15, 000 miles on it since the restoration.
The 1932 Nash Phaeton is powered by an impressive 125 horsepower, 5300 cubic capacity eight-cylinder engine, with twin ignition and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Under the hood, you'll find a well-functioning and sought-after Stromberg Uur2 carburettor,
3 Speed gearbox BUT it has what is called a Splitter box which actually gives two speed ranges, a low speed and a high speed so in effect giving you the choice of high range or low range,
You can drive in low range and then once in 3rd flick into high range so giving you 4 gears.
