Description
This is a rare opportunity to buy a 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa and add value and complete a very rewarding project. This is a lovely Targa finished in Gurads Red with Black Interior, Manual car with 115k Miles from new. The previous owner bought her 18 years ago and has been restoring her in that time and it is nearly ready for the road!
A 'modern classic' if ever there was one, Porsche's long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356, and is still in production today. The 356's rear-engined layout was retained but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the bodyshell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favour of a more modern McPherson strut and trailing arm arrangement. In its first incarnation, Porsche's single-overhead-camshaft, air-cooled flat six-cylinder engine displaced 1, 991cc and produced 130bhp; progressively enlarged and developed, it would eventually grow to more than 3 litres and, in turbo-charged form, put out over 300 horsepower. The first of countless upgrades came in 1966 with the introduction of the 911S, the latter easily distinguishable by its Fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels and featuring a heavily revised engine. A lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1969 improved the 911's sometimes-wayward handling and then in 1970 the motor underwent the first of many enlargements - to 2. 2 litres. In 1977, Porsche rationalised the 911 range, reducing it to just two models, SC and Turbo, the normally aspirated 3. 0-litre SC having 204bhp at its disposal by 1981, an output good enough for a top speed of 140mph-plus.
Our car was sold new by Glen Henderson Motors Ltd, the Porsche Dealer for Ayr in Scotland. The first owner was a Mrs, Aileen Fraser of Hilmarnock House, who specified the classic Guards Red with Black Interior, the same as you see today. The car has covered 115k Miles from new with the original service book showing 11 stamps up until 86k Miles in the late nineties, there are many MOT's to show the mileage and some invoice history as well. Our last owner bought the car in 2005 and embarked on a period of rolling restoration work including a full body restoration. In about 2012 he stopped using the car as it developed an electrical fault he couldnt trace and the car has sat in his warm garage since then waiting to be sorted and put back on the road. This never happened and he decided to emigrate, thus allowing you to finish the last few jobs on this beautiful Targa.
The bodywork is very good indeed, as is the interior, with all bits like door boxes ready to go back on, the luggage carpet needs replacing and there are a few other cosmetic jobs needed. The engine is in the car but exhaust is by the side and we havent tried to start the car or put it through an MOT. We are simply going to offer the car at an unbeatable price and let someone else get it ready for the summer! This is a really worthwhile project for someone, they will have a beautiful car for a great price at the end!
