We are very pleased to offer a rare and low mileage 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP. Finished in the ever popular British Racing green with a contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes, this stunning Mini Cooper has covered only 56k in 33 years with only 3 previous owners, one of which cared for it for 20 years. It was registered in August 1990 and supplied by D C Cook in Barnsley and still has its original rear number plate and tax disc holder. It is accompanied with the original service and handbooks and a raft of service receipts including every MOT certificate and both sets of keys. RSP was a special department inside Rover and it stood for Rover Special Products. 1600 RSP Minis were produced as a pre production Mini Cooper, 1050 stayed in the UK in three colours and very few remain in this condition. This particular one is a member of the RSP register and is number 52, only a few hundred are known to survive. They have many unique details that were only ever fitted to the RSP such as the Tudor sunroof, Minilite wheels with a unique stud pattern, half leather seats with a Cooper emblem, colour coded arches and mirrors and unique spotlights. They have always been a very coveted edition as they are true carb Cooper with bags of power. This a correct matching numbers example with all of its original features.
On the road this Cooper is an excellent experience. Make no mistake this is a drivers car it just gives you that feel as soon as its out on the open road. The 1275 engine is super smooth and free revving and the gearbox has a slick and precise change. RSP Minis were fitted with an oil cooled MG Metro engine and they are known to perform like a good Cooper should. The Mini has also jus been treated to a Maniflow exhaust, K&N element filter and four GMAX super sport shocks. The performance and handling will surprise as it pulls like a train, it really excels out on the open road and this the whole point of this example, not only is it good to look at it, the driving experience will give you a big grin.
The interior is very well presented and shows only light signs of use. The seats, carpets and roof liner are all original and belie this Minis vintage. It has ben fitted with a full length walnut dash with three auxiliary gauges, oil pressure, Volt meter and analogue clock. The original binnacle is also available. The steering wheel is finished in red leather and the original Rover Cassette player is all present and correct and it also has the correct sunroof. This model also has rear seatbelts. The boot load area has also been boarded.
As you can imagine, this RSP has a very well preserved body shell and its been a pleasure to work on. This is an unrestored example and it wears its vintage very well. It has its original vented sills, original body coloured floor pans and untouched boot floor and a recent Heritage rear subframe. It also has its original wings and front panel. It has been waxoiled and wax injected for future preservation. The paintwork is very well presented and much of the brightwork has just been replaced. We have fully serviced, checked and driven this fantastic Mini and it will be supplied with a full MOT. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a real piece of Classic Mini Cooper history that will be happy to sit on display or making you smile out on the open road where it belongs.
