"Based on the 2015 homologation-special Panigale R - which was itself based on the Ducati 1299 Panigale but with an uprated version of the 1199 Panigale engine, the 200bhp Superleggera ('super light' in Italian) weighs just 155kg dry, or 166kg wet with no fuel, which is the same as the Bologna firm's WSB racer." - Motor Cycle News.
Introduced in 2012, and named after Ducati's home town of Borgo Panigale, the 1199 Panigale represented a complete break from the preceding family of v-twin superbikes that had begun back in 1994 with the iconic 916. Most obvious change was the disappearance of Ducati's trademark steel trellis frame, replaced with an aluminium monocoque, while the 1, 198c Superquadro engine was likewise all new. At the time of its introduction the Panigale's claimed maximum output of 195bhp made it the world's most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle. Weighing only 188kg fuelled and ready to go, it had a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio yet was relatively easy to ride. According to MCN: "Like Ducatis of old its super-stable in fast corners, but it steered as fast as a Japanese superbike. It's a very clever motorcycle and very, very good."
Offered here is an example of the 1199 Superleggera variant, a limited edition (500 units) model launched in 2014. As its name suggests, the Superleggera was intended to be as light as possible, a goal Ducati achieved by using magnesium for the monocoque chassis and carbon and titanium for various other components. The resulting wet weight of 166kg was truly astonishing, making the 200bhp Superleggera 31kg lighter than Honda's 47bhp CBX500!
Dry stored and used only on sunny days, this one-owner example of Ducati's ultimate v-twin superbike has covered a mere 3, 976 miles from new. Supplied by Ducati Glasgow in 2014, the machine was not road registered until April 2017. Fitted with an Akrapovic exhaust box, a Ducati ZDM-A100 exhaust box accompanies the machine.
Offered with its Ducati wallet, owner's manual and service booklet, the latter last stamped by Ducati Glasgow on 8th April 2017 at 3, 481 miles. Additional documentation consists of MoT to 23rd May 2024, and a V5C registration Certificate. Offered with two keys.
