In 1953, the Fiat 1100 was introduced, a four-door, four-seater family car. The car turned out to be extremely successful. In the following years, a station wagon ("Familiale"), a van, a pick-up and a convertible ("Spider") were added to the model line. In October 1957, a more powerful engine became available and the “1200” model could be ordered besides the “1100” model. The performance improved considerably (top speed 140 km/ h). In addition to the standard convertible, the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile, in October 1957 the 1200 Spider was introduced as well. This was a two-door roadster with the new 1221 cc engine that was marketed as “1200 Spider”. The design agency Pininfarina was commissioned for the design, and the car is reportedly designed by Luigi Rapi. This 1200 Spider was distinguished by a panoramic windscreen, modified bumpers and a new grille. The speedometer was replaced by a strip-shaped one and a new steering wheel model was installed. A spectacular new feature in this car was the “swiveling seats”, the front seats that could be swiveled outwards to make it easier to get in and out.
The Fiat 1200 Spider at Classic Park is equipped with the stronger 1221 cc engine and has the special swiveling seats. The car was restored in the late 1990s and is still in very nice condition. Photos of the restoration are included with the car. The Fiat has a Dutch registration.
