Five months after the launch of the "Mini" in August 1959, the British Motor Corporation (BMC) had already launched the first bodywork variant on the market with the Mini-Van in January 1960. Based on a floor assembly extended by 25 cm, the new delivery van offered a generous cargo platform. In order to maximize the utility value, BMC positioned the battery, spare wheel and tank beneath the cargo platform. Designed as a utility vehicle, the van was provided with Spartan equipment. No chrome trims were fitted to the bodywork and the grille characteristic of the van was simply made of stamped sheet metal painted in the colour of the car. Austin and Morris models were only distinguished by their emblem.
This delightful-looking Grey-coloured right-hand drive Mini Van left the Cowley production line in 1961 and is a rare flat-roof example with an opening vent, floor-mounted starter and 'wand' gear lever. Supplied new in January 1961 by Fairway Motors Ltd, Southampton, then sold to its first private owner, Maurice Donaldson Palmer on 16th February 1961. '2593TR' has been extensively restored in recent times and boasts a detailed bay for its 850cc engine and rides on the original specification steel wheels and hubcaps. Currently displaying an unwarranted 4, 600 miles, the Mini is MOT'd until December 2024. Practical, fun classic transport and ideal for today's austere climate.
PLEASE NOTE: The V5c states the ‘Date of First Registration’ as 13/ 01/ 1960, however, the accompanying Buff logbook states it was first registered on 13/ 01/ 1961. The MOT certificates also state that the mileage has stayed at 4, 600 since 2015, indicating an odometer fault.
