Description
Two million and seven hundred! This is the total number of W123s that rolled off the Mercedes production line during the 9 years of production – from 1976 to 1985. The model was so successful that it is common to see these cars with many millions of kilometers still in perfect working order.
The W123 is considered by many to be the last truly traditional Mercedes and the end of an era, in terms of reliability and longevity – it is very difficult to breakdown in well-maintained W123, as this car was really built to last! From the engines, transmission, suspension and even the interior materials, everything was made and designed to be robust.
This 240D was the best option for those who wanted to do a lot of kilometers, as it has a robust, reliable and, above all, very economical diesel engine under the bonnet! The 72 Ps are irrelevant, as reaching the destination, whatever the distance, is guaranteed.
With an average range of 800 km, this car quickly became the favorite tool of taxi drivers all over the world. However, this specimen never did that sort of service. It was purchased new, in Portugal, by its sole owner in 1980 and, as a result of its sentimental value, it recently underwent a careful and complete restoration in the Mercedes-Benz workshops in OPorto.
The restoration is fully documented and cost more than €40, 000! With all the invoices present and national provenance, this 240D is a true collector's piece that is difficult to find in this condition!
