In the early 1960’s Maserati was enjoying a surge in popularity. Buoyed by its success in motorsport, its reputation had risen to match the biggest names of the time including Mercedes and Ferrari. In 1962 Prince Karim Aga Khan ordered a modified 4 door version of their flagship 5000 GT sports car and the result was so well received by Maserati executives it was ordered into production almost straight away.
First unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in 1963 the resulting car was named the Quattroporte (Literal translation, 4 doors) and has turned into Maserati’s most enduring model. Pairing a high performance race bred engine with a luxury saloon is more common these days but back in the 1960’s there was nothing else that could match it in the marketplace for speed and luxury.
The car we have offered for sale today is a terrific example of the 5th Generation. This top of the range GTS model is fitted with the same 3. 8L v8 twin turbo F154 engine you would find in the Ferrari California. Maserati chose to not use the temperamental 7 speed dual clutch transmission found in the California, instead installing the far more reliable a widely used 8 speed ZF automatic transmission (found on all recent Rolls Royce’s, Porsche Panameras and most luxury German saloons). This combination gives an excellent balance of breath-taking acceleration with silky smooth gear changes while maximising fuel efficiency at higher speeds. There is even the option to manually control the gear changes via paddles behind the steering wheel for those times when you feel like getting a little more hands on with the driving experience.

This car is painted in Nero Ribelle with contrasting super soft Ivory seats with matching carpets. High gloss wood trim adorns the centre console which also houses the 7 inch colour touchscreen display which controls most of the interior functions including Sat Nav, Radio, rear parking camera and heated seats. Once your listening choice has been made the 600w 10 speaker factory fitted sound system will delivery your tunes with aplomb.
Also optioned from the factory are the 21 inch, Titano alloy wheels painted in an attractive shade of gun metal grey which gives the car a sportier and more aggressive look from the outside. A set of brand new Continental Sport Contact 7 tyres were fitted in February 2023 and the car has covered minimal miles on them since. You might think the addition of such large wheels and low profile tyres would negatively effect the ride but in truth the active dampers fitted as standard keeps the car level and poised with minimal intrusion from bumps in the road.
