Like all the Japanese manufacturers, Suzuki recognised the importance of the North American 'off-road' market and began offering appropriate models in the mid-1960s. Its first efforts were modified roadsters but as development progressed Suzuki's street scramblers became more capable on the dirt. One of the most successful was the TS series of single-cylinder two-strokes, which commenced in 1969 with the TS250, while the successor ER series shifted the focus even more towards off-road capability. Introduced in 1980, the ERs incorporated a host of features intended to improve practicality, including serrated folding footrests, plastic mudguards and rubber-mounted indicators, while reed valve induction was used on the larger models.
After 1981 the TS250 strokers were replaced by the four-stroke DR250, reappearing in 1984 as the TS250X (RH250X in some markets) using the water-cooled engine of the RM250 moto-crosser, while the chassis had been updated with Suzuki's 'Full Floater' mono-shock rear suspension.
This TS250X was registered to the late owner on 17th May 1989 having had one former keeper. It should be noted that the frame number is recorded as 'SJ11BXXXXXX107087' on the accompanying HPI report and V5C Registration Certificate – clearly an old typographical error. The machine is presented in well used, age-related condition and is sold strictly as viewed. Recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent will be required before further use (the engine turns over but the battery is dead). The current odometer reading is 12, 724 miles. Offered with one key.
