Description
The car when launched was badged as the “3. 5 litre” and commonly known as the 3½ Litre. The final letter in the “P5B” model name came from Buick, the engine’s originator. Rover did not have the budget to develop a new engine; hence, they chose to develop the lightweight aluminium Buick engine, making it considerably stronger. While this added some weight, it still maintained the engine’s light and compact features. The Borg Warner Type-35 automatic transmission, hydro-steer variable ratio power steering and front lucas fog lights were now standard.
The Rover P5 was the chosen mode of transport for the Royal family and Government ministers for a large period of its production run – testimony to the grace and elegance that this car possesses in spades.
This particular car, that we are marketing for one of our customers, is a very nice example, the odometer is showing 67847 miles which cannot be guaranteed, but the oldest test certificate in the extensive history folder shows a recorded mileage of 64, 169 back in 1998 so it is highly possible the mileage is correct.
The car’s had some minor remedial work carried out to the chassis in our workshop and has been re-commissioned to ensure it is running really well in readiness for the coming spring and summer months. Out on the road, the car glides along with the level of refinement you would expect given the people who used to choose to run these gorgeous vehicles.
The car is in good order and is ready for any prospective new owner to come and have a look – we are sure you won’t be disappointed.
