We have the pleasure of offering for sale this rare opportunity to own our 1981 RG500 European Championship winning bike ridden to victory by Leandro Becheroni at the 1981 GP500 European Championships. This late RG500 with matching frame and engine numbers is the original bike although it has been repainted into its striking Blue and white paint scheme since Leandro rode the bike in its original black and yellow livery.
Becheroni's first major success in his career came in 1977, when he won the Italian junior championship in the 500 class with a Bimota SB1. He then made his debut in the 1978 world championship at the Venezuelan GP, a race that he finished seventh in the 500 class. In 1979 he won the Italian Senior Championship in the 750 class, finishing second in all three races held in the season but without obtaining a victory.
Supported by Team Italia, he won the first edition of the European Speed Championship in the 500cc class in 1981 on our bike, finishing first in two of the three races. After winning the European title, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Athletic Valour by CONI.
Following the victory of the continental title, in the following season and until 1986 he raced several races in the world championship, all in the 500 class, but without obtaining significant results, he only managed to equal his best placement in a world championship race, finishing seventh in the 1984 San Marino GP.
