The 1198, and all of it’s variants, was the last of an era of bikes that had the Ducati trademark trellis framework and a belt driven motor, these two things alone had characterised Ducati superbikes since 1986, and disappeared with the introduction of the 1199 Panigale
It was also the first of a new breed in that it offered electronic hardware such as DTC – Ducati Traction Control for the first time
As with all Ducati Superbikes, both prior to, and following the 1198, the ‘S’ model offered an appreciably higher specification than the base bike, with the use of expensive branded components from Ohlins, Brembo and Marchesini, amongst others
As such, the 1198S specification included a trellis frame in silver constructed from ALS450 alloy, fully adjustable 43mm dia. Ohlins forks, fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock, fully adjustable Ohlins steering damper, Brembo Monobloc calipers with 330mm dia. front discs, lightweight forged aluminium Marchesini 7 spoke wheels, single sided swingarm, DDA – Ducati Data Analyser, DTC – Ducati Traction Control, Moto GP derived LED instruments, Stopwatch and lap timer, adjustable levers with Brembo radial master cylinders and remote reservoirs and polyellipsoidal headlamps with LED rear lamps.
This particular bike also has the (must have) option of upgraded exhausts, in this particular case Akrapovic carbon items with associated DP Race ECU, and additionally it has a Renthal QR rear sprocket carrier, Bespoke tricolore decals/ paint protection to it’s nose and tail sections, Ducati Corse Race cowl, Carbon fibre front fender, Carbon fibre rear hugger and chain guard, Carbon fibre exhaust shield Carbon fibre heel plates, Carbon fibre key/ tank surround, Alcantara suede covered seat, Adjustable levers, Quick release fuel cap and ever useful CTEK battery flylead
