With Elon Musk an enthusiastic owner of performance cars which included the iconic McLaren F1, part of the original design brief was that together with utilising ground-breaking technology, Tesla’s first production model should be both dynamic and exciting to drive. As such, the skills of Lotus engineers were employed for the design and construction of the chassis, body and handling characteristics of the Roadster.

With a total production of 2, 450 examples, the Roadster was sold in over thirty countries between 2008 and 2012. More than a decade later, the original Roadster is now rightly regarded as being the first ‘classic electric car’ and ahead of Tesla launching their highly anticipated second generation Roadster, values and interest in these original versions have continued to rise.
