Here we have for sale this rebuilt 1979 Series 3 Land Rover®, finished in Keswick Green with Limestone Wheels. As the photos demonstrate, this is one handsome Series 3 – the paint colour is spot on, and there are a host of features that contribute to the overall appearance – there’s a full set of LWB rims in limestone, shod with brand new 750×16 military chevron tyres….. ideal for that aggressive look, long wear time, and great off roading. The canvas is new, and there are defender mirrors, so you can actually see what’s behind. Free wheeling hubs are fitted to reduce wear and increase fuel economy, and coupled to the oversize tyres, this should give a more relaxed cruise, akin to an overdrive. A galvanised bumper completes the front end look, which houses a classic number plate. The bonnet mounted spare also gives that archetypal profile one expects to see on a Land Rover classic. Towards the rear, there’s a towbar with electrics, rear grab handles and mudflaps all round. A neat aluminium style number plate light gives a pleasing finish too. All the cappings on this vehicle have been previously removed, refinished and reinstalled, so that the aluminium rivets shine proudly through the paintwork – it looks really sharp.
The interior of this truck is similarly appointed, with a set of high back seats, seat belt bar and 3 point, inertia reel diagonal belts. This gives increased functionality and safety which is great to see. There’s a central cubby box too for storage of items plus 2 cup holders to boot. Deluxe matting is fitted to the floors. Also to note is that the vehicle fully locks, including window locks to the sliding windows. The rear is unfitted, but matching bench seats and/ seat belts can be retro fitted for a small additional cost – giving seating for six if required.
Out on the road this pretty old girl really does deliver, with a willing engine and smooth gearbox. The oversize tyres give better gearing ratios and a generally more relaxed drive. The servo brakes are adequate too!
In summary, if you are looking for a long term investment that will be fun to own, then this good looking, galvanised chassis rebuild should fit the bill. With MOT and tax exemption, alongside simple maintenance and low cost insurance it should prove very easy to live with and use, whilst retaining value. We love this truck!
