An excellent example of the “facelift” 986 Boxster 3. 2 S from late 2002, RA52YOF has covered 73, 125 miles over the last 21 years, and is presented in classic Porsche Guards Red with black extended leather interior and black hood. The facelift cars from the last two years of 986 Boxster production featured a number of revisions and improvements over the earlier models, including increased power to 260bhp, a new hood design with heated glass rear window, revised bumpers and air intakes, and some improvements to the interior with the addition of a glove box and cupholders no less!
RA52YOF was first registered on 22nd November 2002 by AFN Reading (now Porsche Centre Reading), and was ordered with a number of factory options including heated seats, PSM Porsche Stability Management, extended leather to dashboard and door panels, PCM2 Porsche Communication Management with Telephone and Navigation modules, and a 6-disc CD changer (…remember those?). The car is fitted with 17″ 986. 2 alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
The service history is very good, with 12 stamps in the service record, from Porsche Centres and well known specialists. The previous owner bought the car in January 2018, and over the past 6 years has had the car looked after by a reputable Devon based Porsche specialist, with frequent servicing visits and lots of remedial and refurbishment works completed. This includes replacement of the IMS bearing with a hybrid ceramic bearing kit (Feb 2018 at 68, 781 miles), front suspension overhaul (May 2018 at 69, 056 miles), refurbished wheels (June 2019 at 70, 370 miles), cooling fan resistors and window regulator (Oct 2019 at 70, 800 miles), new Dansk stainless exhaust silencer (November 2020 at 71, 049 miles), headlights reconditioned (June 2022 at 72, 426 miles), brake lines and AC condensers (February 2024 at 73, 032 miles).
As a result, the car drives extremely well, with supple, quiet suspension, feelsome steering and precise handling. All the control weights (steering, throttle, clutch, gearchange, brakes) are evenly matched as only Porsche knows how, and the car has great balance and poise, delivering a wonderful driving experience accompanied by a great soundtrack from the flat six engine. The Guards Red paintwork is in good original condition, with a few stone chips around the nose. The black fabric roof is in good order and works as it should, and the interior is in fine fettle too, with just some creasing to the leather on the drivers seat bolsters, to be expected on a 21 year old car. Everything works as it should, although the mapping on the PCM navigation appears to be stuck somewhere on the coast near Dawlish, so we will try to reset that.
We have inspected the car and could find no faults, so it just needs a brake fluid change to keep the service record up to date, which we will do before sale.
Good facelift Boxster S models in Guards Red are becoming harder to find, and especially ones with such a solid history file (invoices right back to 2002, and every old MOT certificate from 2007) and much recent expenditure.
