Description
FIAT WAINER FORMULE JUNIOR 1959
Rare opportunity to acquire an authentic 1959 Fiat WAINER Formula Junior, produced in only 4 examples.
At the time it was one of the first cars to introduce a rear‑engined configuration in Formula Junior.
The bodywork is entirely aluminium, the engine bonnet is a genuine work of art.
Wainer was an avant-garde small race-car constructor based in the city of Milan, Italy.
The company was led by Gianfranco Mantovani.
The first car was a Formula Junior built in 1958 and the last car would be a Formula 3 built at the end of the 1980s.
This elegant little single-seater is powered by a race-tuned Fiat 1100 cm3 engine, the two carburettors are rare Weber 38s.
The ladder chassis specially designed at the time is reinforced and mounted with 4 genuine BORRANI wheels.
This car is very well documented (period photographs) and competed extensively during the period 1959/ 1960. It boasts around thirty races in 1959 and around ten in 1960.
It won in January 1959 at the ICECAR Grand Prix in Cortina, driven by Manfredini.
This driver beat a field of fast cars and capable drivers including a young promising Lorenzo Bandini. What a wonderful era!
This car was fully restored in Italy about twenty years ago by the late Wainer Mantovani himself.
Since then it has benefited from major maintenance each year. It is regularly used with great care and respect for its mechanics during historic demonstrations.
It has recently returned to its homeland and took part in the VERNASCA Silver Flag in 2019 and 2023.
Always very well maintained mechanically and cosmetically.
It has been signed by the famous Arturo Merzario and since then its bodywork has been completely refinished.
Recent works:
Gearbox overhaul, ignition, carburettor synchronization, fire extinguisher, brand-new fuel pump, all hoses, oil and fluid changes, Dunlop racing tyres, brake cylinders, gel battery, one exhaust system with silencer + another chrome megaphone type, new water expansion tank and oil expansion tank, seat foam, etc…
Price is negotiable.
