Launched in 1927, the 16/ 6 slotted neatly into the Austin range sitting above the 7hp and 12hp models but below the 3. 4-litre 20hp. It was powered by a new six-cylinder side-valve engine with a timing chain at the rear of the block, mated to a four-speed gearbox. It shared its chassis with the Heavy 12/ 4 from which it was distinguished by the ‘Austin Six’ script on the radiator and wire wheels.
This Austin 16/ 6 Berkeley was registered in July 1934 and was supplied by Gears Garage in Charmouth.
It starts very well and the engine runs like a sewing machine, it really is smooth with bags of power.
The drive train is lovely and smooth, there are no nasty noises and has a good cruising speed. The brakes are no exception and it genuinely drives very well.
The paint work isn’t immaculate but it is very nice, there is no corrosion and the body is in good order. The wheels have been refurbished and it is fitted with new tyres.
The interior is original, and has plenty of character, it is still fitted with its original supplier plate.
