The Belgian Leyland Mini MkIII, produced between 1970 and 1976, was assembled in Seneffe, a key factory for British Leyland in Europe. This local production made it possible to avoid certain import taxes and to adapt the model to the specific characteristics of the Belgian and European markets. Unlike the British versions, the Belgian Mini often bore a Leyland or simply a Mini badge, without the distinction between Austin and Morris found in the UK. The Mini assembled in Seneffe benefited from some notable differences, particularly in terms of equipment and finishes. Some Belgian versions were better equipped than their British counterparts, with more effective anti-corrosion treatments, enabling them to better withstand the local climate. In terms of engines, the Belgian Mini MkIIIs were available in several configurations. The entry-level version was powered by an 850cc engine developing around 34bhp, ideal for economical urban driving. The more common 998cc engine offered greater versatility, with power ranging from 38 to 42 bhp. For performance enthusiasts, some versions were equipped with the 1275 cm³ engine, notably in the Cooper S or 1275 GT models, although these were produced in limited numbers in Belgium. Production of the Mini MkIII at Seneffe ended in 1976, when the Mini MkIV gradually took over. The Seneffe factory continued to assemble British Leyland models until 1981, when it closed for good. Today, Belgian Minis are relatively rare and often better preserved than British models, making them sought-after collectors' items. This example is a 998cc version built at Seneffe in 1974. It has been completely restored to its original Carmin Red colour and is in almost new condition.
