Alfa Romeo broke new ground with the launch of the Alfasud in 1972. Given that they had no experience with small front-wheel drive cars, the sheer dynamic excellence of the flat-four powered Sud came as a shock to their competitors, and the Alfa was immediately commended by the media for its ground breaking styling.
The Alfasud is considered one of Alfa Romeo’s most successful models, with over 1, 000, 000 examples manufactured between 1972 and 1989. Now a rare car, very few remain registered in the UK.
The Car:
First registered in September 1982, this Alfasud Gold Cloverleaf 1500 was supplied by Mario Deliotti Ltd, Birmingham-based Alfa Romeo main agents, to its original owner, who was the late husband of its current owner, at a cost of £5, 965.
Named 'Poggy' by the couple, it features Ivory paintwork, with front headlights fitted with a headlight wash/ wipe system – a feature of the Gold Cloverleaf edition – over a beige velour interior with matching beige carpets. The Gold Cloverleaf was the flagship of the Alfasud range, with several sophisticated features, including front electric windows, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a matching gear knob.
Now in need of a full restoration, it is a complete blank canvas for its new owner, to either retain the period colour combination or change it.
The vehicle was in regular use by the couple until the late 1990s or early 2000s, when a newer addition arrived and Poggy was garaged, where she has remained until now.
Under the front-hinged bonnet is the 1. 5-litre boxer flat-four engine, driving the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Supplied with its original book packs, including the service coupon book stamped up to 1986 at 60, 864 miles, instruction book, service map and fleet plan booklets, previous MOT certificates and amazingly, its original Bill of Sale.

With very few left on the roads, opportunities like this don't come along very often. With just one previous family owner, this is, in our opinion, the perfect car to create your dream Sud.
