Lot 260
Offered from the estate of the late Richard Dressel
1973 Laverda 980cc 3C
Registration no. SYC 741L
Chassis no.
With its staggering performance and brutish good looks the Laverda triple was one of the top superbikes of the 1970s. This sought after drum braked 1973 example was despatched to Austria when new. It seems to have been off the road from 1982, and to have been the subject of a meticulous restoration between 2017 and 2020. The odometer read 27, 593km in a pre-restoration photo from 2017. A brief video, entitled "Erster start seit 1982": "First start since 1982", is believed to have been recorded in February 2020 (see video online). In the video only 2. 6km are showing on the Laverda's reset odometer, and that reading is today only 4. 5km. The Laverda arrived in the UK in July 2020 having been purchased by Richard Dressel, but this was around the time that he became ill, and it wasn't registered with the DVLA until July 2021. Very sadly Richard never got to ride it, and it isn't known when it was last run. Accompanying items include some discarded components from the restoration, the original Austrian registration document which includes two photos of the bike when new, dating certificate, V5C, and a USB stick containing a photographic record of the restoration across several hundred images: (please contact the motorcycle department ahead of the sale to receive the aforementioned images). Recommissioning will be required following a period of storage, and running in may be necessary. Prospective bidders should satisfy themselves as to the motorcycle's completeness and mechanical condition prior to bidding. Sold strictly as viewed. Offered with key.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams website for all pertinent auction information.
