Lot 342
The Green House Farm Collection
1902 Andru 225cc
Registration no. W 8792
Chassis no.
One of the ultra-obscure makes known as an 'N. I. T.' (Not In Tragatsch), Andru was based in Paris, France and seems to have been in business for only a few years circa 1902-1904. Andru used Mirus engines and their 1904 catalogue shows four models with 2½hp and 2¾hp engines.
This rare survivor was acquired by the vendor's late father (Geoffrey Pollard) in the early 1970s from Verrall's, when it was based in Tooting Beck in London. The paintwork and nickel plate were refurbished in the 1970s, but the engine restoration was not completed until early 2000s using a 6-volt total loss ignition system. Since then the Andru has successfully completed six Pioneer Runs from London to Brighton (without any pedalling assistance), plus various other local Veteran runs. It comes with the original Longuemare carburettor but currently has a small Japanese carburettor fitted, as this makes it easier to ride in modern day traffic and also increases its performance.
The machine has been kept in heated, dry storage with all fuel drained and carburettors cleaned following each use. Although not used very often in recent years, it has been periodically started. The vendor is thinning down his collection, hence the reason for sale. Offered with a Pioneer Certificate and current V5C.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams website for all pertinent auction information.
