1971 Ford Escort MK1 2 Door. RHD Import from South Africa. All tax and duty has been paid and the UK reg has been applied for. Good solid old car which starts, runs and drives, but their is room for a bit improvement.
Body - 1971 Mk1 2 door shell. Original inner wings, strut tops, sills, rear arches, pillars. Has had a couple of repairs on floors in the past but overall a solid old shell. Ive had the magnet right along the door bottoms, wings bottoms, lower quarters and sills and its really good. The doors sit well in the shell and dont stick out at the bottom. Chassis rails are good and have the extra chassis skids at the back similar to our Mexico / RS models. Paintwork is tidy enough. Its not a show winner but perfectly presentable. Mexico decals and badges on wings. Scratch on nsr arch. One wiper went missing when on transporter. Bonnet pins fitted rather than a cable and catch.
Mechanics - Good 1600 crossflow engine which starts no problem. Engine sounds good. 4 speed box Mexico gearbox fitted converted to cable clutch.. Gearbox, brakes and clutch are all good. Carb will need adjusted due to the different climate. As with any old car it will need a good checkover from front to back before being used in anger.
Interior - 6 dial dash fitted, voltmeter works, fuel gauge works, oil pressure gauge not connected, temp gauge works, rev counter not working, speedo is working. Dash top looks like an aftermarket one. Door cards and seats are ok. Driver seat not sitting level which needs looking at. Door cards and seats look like they have recently been retrimmed.
Wheels - Very clean Minilite style alloys with good 185 / 60 / 13 tyres.
