The 1990 BMW K1 1000cc is an iconic piece of motorcycling history, born out of BMW's desire to redefine what was possible in the sports touring motorbike segment. Introduced at the end of the 1980s, the K1 was an audacious response to the limits imposed by regulations and growing Japanese competition. With its radical look and advanced aerodynamics, it was a motorbike that broke conventions and took on a pioneering role in the development of BMW's road bike technology. One of the greatest features about the K1 is its futuristic design: it was one of the first bikes to focus heavily on aerodynamics, with an integral fairing that significantly reduced drag. A highly innovative model for the time, the K1 stood out with its 987cc liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine, mounted longitudinally and with a final drive shaft (instead of a chain), guaranteeing greater durability and less maintenance. It was also one of the first factory-equipped motorbikes with ABS, innovative technology for the time and a milestone in active safety on two wheels. Its perimeter frame and Paralever rear suspension have contributed to above-average stability and comfort, making it excellent on both motorways and winding roads.
