Launched in 1996, the Jaguar XK8 marked a fresh chapter in the marque’s grand touring tradition. With sleek lines penned by Geoff Lawson, the XK8 evoked the elegance of classic E-Types while introducing Jaguar’s first production V8 engine – the 4. 0-litre AJ-V8. Coupled with a smooth automatic transmission and cosseting interior, it proved to be a compelling blend of performance, comfort, and timeless design. As a convertible, the XK8 offered top-down motoring with the poise and presence expected of a Jaguar GT.
The Car:
This XK8 Convertible, finished in a tasteful colour combination and showing just 59, 804 miles, presents as a stylish and usable modern classic. First registered in 1998 and now with six former keepers, it remains in very usable condition and benefits from light recent use by its current owner, who acquired the car in September 2022. Since purchase, it has been kept in secure, dehumidified storage and only modestly exercised.
The car is accompanied by its current V5 and a service book bearing 14 stamps, attesting to consistent maintenance over its lifetime. A selection of invoices is also included, covering key works and upkeep over the years. Recent highlights include an air conditioning re-gas in June 2023 and a comprehensive service in October 2022 at 58, 432 miles, which included an oil and filter change, rear brake pad replacement, and full brake lubrication.
Of particular note is a large quantity of mechanical work in March 2020 at 57, 005 miles, during which a gearbox issue was resolved through cable adjustment and rotary switch replacement. At the same time, underside corrosion was addressed, and a host of suspension components – including top wishbone bushes, ball joints, and subframe mounts – were renewed. Other documented maintenance includes a new starter motor (2015), battery (2018), and fuel pump (2019), with a full set of tyres fitted in 2011, then showing only 53, 182 miles.
The exterior remains largely pleasing, with good paintwork throughout, though there is evidence of light stone-chipping and some corrosion beginning to appear at the extremities of the sills and rear arches – minor flaws common to XK8s of this vintage. The cabin is well-preserved, with inviting pale leather that has worn with dignity; the driver’s seat bears a small tear (photographed), but the wood trim and convertible hood are both in good condition.
The car has just passed a fresh MOT with no advisories, which runs until the 22nd May 2026.
A fine example of a gently matured modern classic, combining performance and comfort in equal measure, and offered with modest mileage, solid provenance, and sensible recent upkeep.
