Lot 8
The Chris Skellern Collection
1964 Honda 125cc CB92
Registration no. XJT 497B
Frame no. CB92-3102889 (See text)
Engine no. CB92E-3103327 (See text)
Honda's first 125cc twins - the C90 tourer and CB90 sports - appeared in 1958 and were swiftly superseded by the C92 and CB92 respectively. With its aggressive styling, class-leading specification, phenomenal 15bhp power output (at 10, 500 revs!), huge - for a 125 - brakes and 250-beating performance, the CB92 proved an outstanding success and today is one of the most collectible of early Japanese classics.

A UK-market model first registered on 26th March 1964, this CB92 was a 'basket case' when purchased from Racing & Investment Motorcycles on 21st January 2019 (receipt on file). The Honda was first registered as 'FMX 63B'. Reportedly the engine was rebuilt by Bernie Saunders and this restored machine features many new-old-stock parts including the speedometer, hence zero miles showing. The racing seat is a reproduction and the left silencer new-old-stock, while a correct battery (unused) is included in the sale. The shock absorbers are from Hagon. Our vendor has had the machine running but says it is not the easiest to start.

Accompanying paperwork includes (copy) old and current V5C documents. It should be noted that the former records the frame number as the engine number and records an incorrect frame number, while the latter lists a DVLA-issued VIN number ('DVLASWAthe details below'). The current registration 'XJT 497B' is an age-related mark (see DVLA correspondence on file). Additional paperwork includes a Honda Owners Club (GB) dating document; an original Honda CB92 Driver's Manual; and a substantial quantity of invoices for parts used in the restoration.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
