Produced between 1976 and 1989, it was the successor to the CS/ E9 coupés, affirming BMW's vocation in the GT segment. Designed by Paul Bracq and Manfred Rennen, its sleek silhouette and famous 'shark nose' gave it an inimitable style. Initially launched in 3. 0- and 3. 3-litre versions, the 635 CSi made its debut in 1978 with a 218bhp 3. 5-litre engine, while the M635 CSi, launched in 1984, took sportiness even further. Equipped with the M88 engine derived from the M1, this in-line six-cylinder produced 286 bhp, propelling the car to 260 km/ h. Its interior combines ergonomics and sophistication, with modern equipment for its time, although some plastics have aged. Designed for driving pleasure and comfort, the 635 CSi shone with its balance and captivating sound, despite its high weight and perfectible brakes. In competition, it made its mark thanks to its prepared versions, notably in the DTM. Today, rare and sought-after, the M635 CSi remains an icon much appreciated by discerning enthusiasts.
