Description
A rare, collector's, high-performance, body-built Youngtimer, reminiscent of the famous rallies of the late 80s! VEITURA is delighted to present this nugget to you today: a Ford Sierra RS COSWORTH in very good condition, both in appearance and running order! In 1986, Ford transformed its family saloon into a super-sporty coupé. With its imposing spoiler and prepared engine, the Ford Sierra RS COSWORTH was ready to take on both rally and circuit ... For the record, the Ford Sierra was born in a difficult context: it was the early 80s, the car industry was trying to recover after two successive oil crises. At the 1981 Paris Motor Show, the brand unveiled its 'Probe III' study, a complete departure from the range of the time. Its highly advanced aerodynamics enabled it to achieve a Cx of 0. 22! Its smooth, round shapes were derived from bio-design. Behind the scenes, Ford was observing the public's reactions. Underlying this concept were the lines of the future Sierra, then designated as the replacement for the European Taunus and the British Cortina. However, Ford's commitment to sobriety soon faded when it decided to homologate the Sierra for Group A rallying. To do this, the brand had to produce 5, 000 examples of the sports version of its coupé. This was the definition of a 'global' car: an American brand, a British Cosworth engine, a German design ('RS' for Rennsport) and ... production in Belgium at the Genk plant. The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1986, and production was launched in June! This emblematic RS COSWORTH version was distinguished by its specific features and equipment, which underlined its sportiness and racing lines, including: rectangular front lights with twin headlamps, air inlets for the brakes, a deep radiator grille, bonnet and bumper vents, a complete original body kit with wing flares, modified bumpers, side mouldings and skirts, 15-inch BBS alloy wheels, and of course that imposing rear spoiler to provide downforce. All this gave the 3-door versions of the 1986-1987 model year (the most popular, before the switch to 4-doors) the look of a dynamic, sporty Coupé, even a little mean! Inside, there are a number of special features and choices, including a 3-spoke sports steering wheel, multi-function counters, gauges and indicators, a digital screen, the famous RS-specific RECARO velour seats that provide excellent support, a comfortable rear bench seat, etc. Under the bonnet, the red cylinder head cover announces the colour: the famous 16-valve turbocharged COSWORTH engine! The 1, 994 cm³ 4-cylinder cast-iron block has a double overhead camshaft and forged crankshaft and connecting rods. Magneti Marelli electronic fuel injection completes the engine definition, which is supercharged by a Garrett T3 turbocharger with intercooler, blowing at 0. 7 bar. Power of 204 bhp (at 6, 000 rpm) with torque of 28. 1 mkg (at 4, 500 rpm) is transmitted to the rear wheels via a robust Borg-Warner five-speed manual gearbox via an axle fitted with a self-locking differential. So, of course, this is a 2-wheel drive - rear-wheel drive! Chassis-wise, the Sierra RS COSWORTH is fitted with ventilated 283 mm 4-piston discs at the front and 272 mm discs at the rear. Suspension is conventional (wishbones at the front and trailing arms at the rear), with power steering and ABS. Top speed is close to 240 km/ h, with a 0-100 km/ h time of 6. 8 seconds and a 1, 000 m time of just over 27 seconds... Performance is the name of the game! Our beautiful car was registered for the 1st time in December 1986 and has belonged to its current owner since August 2020 (he is the 3rd). He is a car enthusiast and also owns several pleasure cars. He has all his cars serviced and maintained by professional mechanics, using original parts and components (various invoices are available on file). In recent years, regular servicing and follow-up work has been carried out, as have the rear silencer, new 205/ 50 VR15 tyres, etc. A complete engine overhaul was also carried out by the 2nd owner before the sale in 2020, as well as a paint job. Our current owner has driven the car less than 4, 000 km in the past 5 years, and had a minor rear dent repaired by a professional bodybuilder in 2021 (detailed invoice available). Nothing major needs to be done to the car today, and a service in June 2025, including oil change, replacement of...
