Autumn price!!

For sale a car greatly admired and photographed at Retromobile 2025 – “magnificent”!

When Citroën presented the ** at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970, it was the result of many years of development. The result was an aerodynamic and avant-garde design by the internal designer Robert Opron, an optimised and extended hydropneumatic system and a compact and powerful engine developed by Maserati, a Citroën subsidiary.
The result was a work of art without equal, at once fast (220 km/ h) and very comfortable thanks to its complex chassis, which did not prevent it from being called the “flying sofa”.

The following year, Henri Chapron, who had built more than 1000 convertibles and many coupes for the DS, presented the ** in convertible form. Due, among other things, to the complex manufacturing process, these models were twice as expensive as the coupe. Only five units were built, and including the “reproductions” later, a maximum of eight. These vehicles are traded on the market at prices around €500, 000.

Around 20 years later, a Northern German entrepreneur commissioned the master coachbuilder and vehicle manufacturer Norbert Waßmann of Zweibrücken in Saarland to convert a ** into a convertible. The result is the car shown here and the first of seven convertibles ** produced by Waßmann in the last 20 years.
The result naturally bears a striking resemblance to Chapron’s conversions, but Waßmann followed his own path. The result is an astonishingly beautiful car and at the same time elegant.

The starting point was a 1991 coupé with a first registration in March 1972 by a first owner. After the conversion, the car remained with the same owner until it was purchased by the current owner in 2023.

The interior is still original, as is the radio “Continental Edison”, technically obsolete, which is a very rare feature. The car has matching numbers. The Weber carburettors have recently been overhauled and adjusted by a specialist company.

The purchase price includes a four-piece original Louis Vuitton luggage set for the Citroën ** – a rarity. The suitcases have also been refurbished. However, this set was only offered at the time for the coupé. The cabriolet’s boot is smaller due to its design.

The Citroën was already registered in Germany with a licence plate “H”.

The speedometer shows a little under 58, 300 kilometres – it will read 158, 300 kilometres.

The Citroën ** Waßmann cabrio can be seen and tested here in Bad Essen. If you have questions about the vehicle, please contact us.
