New Michelin 4×4 Tyres. 6 Seater with Rear Bench Seats. High Back Front Seats. Aluminium Door Tops. Sun Visors. Military Roll & Seat Belt Bar. NATO Hitch. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Soon to be MOT & Tax Exempt.

We are delighted to present for sale this 1986 Land Rover 90, which sports the latest release from the military we’ve ever seen – having been in civilian hands since 2018, and only with 2 former keepers since that release. This particular vehicle has lived a pampered (and sheltered!) life, covering only 2782 miles a year from new, and has only 108, 500 miles on the clock today.

Externally, if you are looking for a “good” ex-military 90 with period features, you are very much in luck – the matching bonnet mounted spare, the rear bumperettes, the NATO hitch – the front towing pintle, the screw light lenses (very handy for a bulb change), the recent canvas, the door mounted mirrors, the external bonnet catches – all lovely to see. It is great to see that everything you’d hope to see is there – right down to a new set of expensive set of Michelin 4×4 tyres – just a truly lovely thing, with the right detailing – from the black rear bumper, to the red detailing front and rear, and silver bumperettes with Khaki canvas – this really pops from any angle.

The inside is exactly what we’d hope to find too – a set of front outer high back seats with integrated headrests, along with deluxe matting to the footwells, and a cover to the gearbox tunnel area for both a premium feel and some additional soundproofing. Even the original “convoy” light switch is in the centre dash, along with the map reading light! The rear houses twin bench seats to bring seating to six people including the driver, along with a load mat to the floor area to protect against damage and scratches. As is customary with these Land Rovers, it is nice to see both a seat belt bar for 3 point belts which is also a roll-over hoop for extra protection too.

Out on the road is where this really sets itself apart though – this is a 39 year old Land Rover, which is quite literally on the eve of tax and MOT exemption – yet, unlike Series vehicles that are currently exempt which are lumbered with leaf springs, heavy steering, 4 speed gearboxes and drum brakes – that isn’t the case here. Not only do you get disc brakes, power steering and a five speed synchro gearbox, but also TDI reliability and power – something most early 90s do not possess, being lumbered with the earlier normally aspirated Diesel, which isn’t a quick unit…. whereas this one will sit quite happily at modern road speeds without any trouble. We purchased this vehicle from near Leeds, and drove it back up the A1(M) to our premises – happily overtaking in the outside lane at the legal maximum without any drama.

As such – this is where it really gets interesting and why values are on a strong climb for these trucks – the current MOT and Tax Exempt Series vehicles would be hard pressed to achieve any idea of modern or frequent use – but this 90 could easily be used as a daily vehicle, should the owner choose to, whilst very soon costing nothing to tax, not needing to go through a modern MOT, and benefitting from Classic Insurance. If you have a home abroad, this can (very soon) stay there, on UK plates, 365 days a year, and all such declarations can be done online, meaning it is as fuss free as possible. It is as close as one can really get in a Classic Land Rover to “having your cake and eating it”… we can even fit a touchscreen Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto Stereo System, should you want it!
