Description
Citroën 5HP Cloverleaf of 1925
Collector’s vehicle registration
I’ve had this car for about twenty years. The previous owner had redone the bodywork (wooden frame rebuilt from new, sheet metal new) and the upholstery.
Over the years I’ve worked on the mechanical side.
The engine was rebuilt at Europe Service: crankshaft assembly, pistons, rings, oil pump (to feed the lifters), head resurfacing…
It is fitted with the replacement Solex 26AHD carburettor, redone at B2H: resurfacing of faces, wear on the throttle shaft…
Ignition is via a magneto which was rebuilt at Bobinage Chaumont (rewind, new condenser…)
The brakes are prepped from the box and the rear wheel is coupled for strong braking; the setup is vintage.
A modification was made to the gearbox. Initially the input and output shafts of the gearbox were equipped with oil return, with a large oil loss if the car is parked on a slope; it is now fitted with SPI seals for good sealing. These works were done at Europe Service.
The fuel tank is stainless steel.
Tyres in excellent condition, with minimal wear.
It is fitted with LaserCar LED headlamp bulbs for good night illumination.
The electric starter works, but I hardly ever use it as the car starts literally at a quarter turn. Only the dynamo would need revisiting; it is used only for lighting and the electric horn, the ignition being via magneto. I have substituted it with a Yellow Optima battery (seasonal deep discharge), which I recharge via banana plugs installed on the circuit-breaker plate.
It also has its soft satin car cover.
The car runs perfectly well; I’ve done up to 200 km on a single outing. Maintenance is kept timely.
I have a few spare parts: a head gasket, a cylinder head, drain gaskets…
As the family is growing, I’m replacing it with a larger cabriolet.
