Description
FACEL VEGA FB III 1964 Coupe
OVERDRIVE
Listing with the Facel Vega Club
Produced only between 1963 and 1964 in 625 examples, of which 192 are convertibles, the FB III is a rare sight on the market.
A genuine French sports car that today attracts many enthusiasts.
Its inimitable styling is instantly recognisable.
This example was delivered new on 30 June 1964 to a dealer in Lyon.
It appears to have had four owners. Quite surprisingly, its first registration was none other than 3 FV 69.
It is listed with the Facel Vega Club and known to the marque’s collectors. It has remained in France and in the Lyon region for many years.
A feature of this car: it is fitted with a Volvo B20 engine, slightly more powerful than the original (origin: Volvo engine from the P1800 of 108 bhp). And it has undergone a full overhaul a few months ago (around €20, 000):
- replacement of the connecting rods, piston rings and crankshaft
- reconditioning of the cylinder head and valve seating
- overhaul of the carburation
- overhaul of the clutch
- replacement of the water pump, fuel pump and oil pump
- servicing of the radiator and starter
- installation of a stainless steel exhaust system with a stainless steel manifold
- installation of four KONI shock absorbers
- bespoke aluminium fuel tank installation
- replacement of the four brake calipers
- front suspension overhaul: replacement of bushings and pivot pins
For comfort and frequent use of the car, several improvements were made:
- installation of electronic ignition
- replacing the coil with an alternator
This Volvo B20 engine gives it superb torque. The car is a pleasure to drive. Gear changes are easy. The overdrive is handy on the motorway.
The bodywork shows wear from age but this gives it a certain charm.
The paint was redone years ago (in the original colour). Classic-car enthusiasts will see a certain charm where others would opt for a full repaint.
It is fitted with four new tyres mounted on 15-inch wire-spoke wheels, also new.
A hoist-on inspection allowed us to see that the sills would need restoration (chassis and longitudinals not affected).
The interior is in standard wear-and-tear condition. The seats and door panels are in good condition. The entire dashboard as well. The instrumentation is functional.
A very rare car on the market, mechanically in very good condition but deserving some bodywork renovation.
Viewable by appointment and on the hoist.
