Founded in Bad Homburg, Germany in 1924, Horex built motorcycles until 1960, though there were sporadic attempts to keep it alive during the 1970s and '80s. Dormant for many years, the brand was revived in 2010 when it was announced that a Horex motorcycle powered by a supercharged narrow-angle V6 engine would be available for sale in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with international sales to follow. The engine was inspired by that of the Volkswagen Golf VR6: with a mere 15 degrees between the cylinder banks it was more like an inline motor, the two banks sharing a common cylinder head; there were three camshafts and three valves per cylinder, and by the time it reached production the blower had been dropped. The engine went into an aluminium spar-type frame with single-sided swinging-arm rear suspension. Final drive was by belt. All too predictably this over-ambitious project was a failure; Horex filed for bankruptcy in 2014 and control passed to the 3C-Carbon Group, who have continued production.
This ultra-rare Horex VR6 was purchased by the vendor directly from Horex in Germany. It is the full 'Carbon Raw' version with 187bhp on tap, and features Maxton-upgraded suspension. The machine was last run in June 2025. Believed to be one of only a tiny handful in the UK, it comes with a Certificate of Conformity, NOVA acknowledgement, V5C document, HPI report and expired MoT (20th December 2024).
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles Website for all pertinent auction information.
