Description
Classic Car Design presents this superb 2001 Porsche 996 GT3 in a rare original colour, “Indischrot”. It is the first of its name, easily recognisable by its striking rear wing. Among the Turbos, it is the sportiest of the 996s. Phase 1 was produced in fewer than 1, 900 units. The GT3 is certainly the prettiest variant of the 996. The various aerodynamic appendages and the lowered suspension leave no doubt about this beast’s track-focused intent!
Its initial registration was Monegasque (Groupe Segond) and it shows relatively low mileage.
Exterior: this exemplar is in very good overall condition, with no scratches or dents, it seems evident that this car has been polished in the past. The 18-inch Phase 2 GT3-style wheels, here finished in black, show no marks. Only, logically, a few scuffs on the front splitter, which is very exposed given the ride height…
Interior: the “sporting” vibe is obvious: no rear bench seat, replaced by RECARO SPG XL bucket seats and a 4-point PORSCHE Club Sport roll cage. The seatbelts are still in place and are complemented by SCHROTH 6-point harnesses. To top it off, the driver will appreciate the PORSCHE GT2 steering wheel. This does not deprive it of some comfort—the air conditioning is part of the equipment and the roof is clad in Alcantara. The entire trim is in very good condition.
Mechanical: an important point, the GT3 engine stands out from other 996s; here it’s the block derived from the Porsche 962 and GT1, tucked under the small bonnet, known as the “Mezger” engine after its designer Hans Mezger. It is paired to a six-speed gearbox—purely mechanical! The captivating flat-six howl is very much present thanks to the stainless steel exhaust and invites you to push into the red zone. Braking lives up to the marque’s reputation.
Here is therefore a very fine example of the 996 GT3: the service book is present and stamped by Porsche and specialists up to 2020. Enter GT3 history and treat yourself to the one that started the lineage.
