Description
Alpina was founded in 1965 by Mr. Burkard Bovensiepen as an advanced tuner of BMW engines to their maximum potential. With special emphasis on revising carburetors, cylinder heads and crankshafts Alpina would enter racing to soon after win both 1970 European Touring Car Championship and Spa 24 Hrs titles. In 1988 Alpina decided to retire from competition and focus exclusively on maximizing perfomance of a limited production hand-build road going passenger vehicles. In collaboration with BMW, Alpina would assemble each engine by hand to have BMW install it to a vehicle before being sent back to Alpina for a hand made interior and body details. Its cars would soon establish a refined ilk of discreet yet powerful machines of innovative technology including the trademark Switch-Tronic automatic transmission with steering wheel provided manual control. In 1999 at the Geneva motorshow Alpina introduced the B3 3. 3 that was based in BMW E46 series. Its engine was based at US-spec E36 M3 to receive an enlarged bore & stroke, a revised cylinder head, super light pistons, damper control, performance crankshaft and exhaust manifold. The mating gearbox would either be a 6 speed Getrag or under special order an optimized automatic ZF produced 5-speed Switch-tronic. The interior would feature sports seats with hand stitched Alpina seats and steering wheel, luxury wood Myrtle, blue colored gauges with re needles and Alpina sills and matts. Three years later Alpina engineers would develop the B3 further to unveil the B3S featuring an increased bore to a 3. 4 lt capacity, a free flow exhaust manifold, a revised intake manifold and an upgraded engine management system. Between 2002 and 2006 Alpina would hand build only 806 B3S’ of which 143 were Coupes.
The B3S offered was hand build in August of 2002 in Saphire Black Metallic over Montana Grey leather interior to feature the Switch-Tronic special option. Treated with impeccable care over the next 2 decades the B3S presents today in impeccable original condition throughout with all manuals and only 28526 km since new.
