The Appeal
Porsche’s fickle engineers worked so diligently on what was intended as an update of the classic air cooled 911, that by the time they finished the new 964 was 80% new. This car goes one step further, evolving a 1990 Carrera 4 into a potent 3. 8RS Tribute.
Classically finished in Guards Red and featuring a ‘Turbo Look’ body kit with RS rear bumper and spoiler, it is an entrancing car. The three-piece Kerscher alloys are shod with new Michelins and add extra dynamism. Inside, there is a reworked interior with Recaro A8 seats, carbon fibre trim, Rennline pedals and a RUF wheel.
Beneath the bonnet, the mechanicals have been brought on to match the looks. The 3. 6L engine delivers 247bhp. The spec includes an RS clutch plate and fork, RS discs, M&M racing exhaust and lowered and adjustable suspension.
The car began life as a Canadian-market car before arriving in Europe in the late 1990s. We’re told that the previous keeper retained it for 10 years. The service history shows regular attention by well-regarded specialists. The most recent service was in April 2024 at 148, 848 km by Autohuolto Linqvist. The odometer now shows 150, 182 kms. The last technical roadworthiness inspection was in April 2023.
The much-improved 964 is a canny choice for air-cooled 911 enthusiasts. This one-of-a-kind example elevates it to a new, much higher level.
The vendor says:
“This 964-era Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a vibrant and highly modified example of the stylish modern classic sports car, which has been transformed into an attention-grabbing tribute to the highly sought-after 3. 8 RS model. Presented with a quintessential Guards Red finish, and boasting a purposeful wide body stance, with a number of discerning RS performance upgrades, it would make a distinctive addition to any marque enthusiast’s collection, and a rewarding companion for weekend drives, visits to car shows, and longer-distance road trips.”

We love the clever styling improvements porsche wrought to the 911 with the 964, but this Carrera 4 takes it to another level. Classically finished in Guards Red, its wide Turbo body, RS rear spoiler and bumper and those eye-catching three-piece Kerschers all indicate that the team that put it together had a considerable eye for detail.
Inside the story continues with a black leather cabin featuring Recaro A8 front buckets, carbon trim and Rennline pedals. These add to an already elevated factory specification that includes cruise control, sunroof and air conditioning.
