The Appeal
As the muscle car wars heated up, Ford introduced a range of high-performance Mustangs. The Mach 1 was the choice for those who wanted straight-line power plus decent handling, in the form of a range of suspension tweaks. The result is one of the most desirable of the ‘hi po’ ‘Stangs.
This eye-catching orange ‘69 is said by the vendor to be a genuine Mach 1 and comes to market following a comprehensive restoration. The well-documented work was completed to a high standard and included a full respray. It is a nicely detailed car with ‘shaker’ hood, side decals and Shelby alloy wheels. Inside, you’ll find a smart black interior with high back seats and a classic Mustang ‘dual cowl’ dashboard with veneers.
The restoration work included refreshing the suspension to factory specification and fitting a high-end power steering conversion that cost €2, 000.
The vendor says:
“This particular example was sourced from an enthusiast in Sweden, who commissioned a series of considered refurbishments to ensure both authenticity and reliability.
“A 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in excellent, road-ready order, repainted, electrically renewed, mechanically refurbished, and upgraded with practical touches like power steering and fresh suspension. With its original interior, strong 390ci V8, and documented restoration history, it stands as both a usable driver’s car and a collectable icon of the muscle-car golden age.”

The joy of any Mustang is spotting the factory options and specifications and just how well these have been preserved. This car has been restored to a high standard, including repainting in period-appropriate orange and sports black bonnet and decals. It sits on smart Shelby alloys.
Inside, there is a well-preserved interior in black with high-back sports seats. It is well preserved and largely standard save for some auxiliary dials added to the centre console and modified door cards.
The Mechanics
390ci V8 ‘Windsor’ engine (S-code) producing 320 bhp and 427 lb-ft of torque
Vendor states engine capacity is 6. 4L
Optional four-speed manual transmission
Factory-style power steering conversion installed at a cost of nearly €2, 000
Fully renewed suspension system, including bushings, bolts, and key components
Completely rebuilt electrical system with the replacement of age-worn wiring and components
Engine is present in clean running condition with period-correct appearance
The Mach 1 delivered similar performance to its high-power Mustang stablemates, but it had a trick up its sleeve. Thanks to a range of suspension tweaks, when it came to the corners, the Mach 1 was able to maintain momentum when its siblings might struggle. That’s why this is the model that aficionados gravitate to.
This car is fitted with the 390CI ‘S-code’ engine. It is mated to the optional four-speed manual box. During the car’s restoration, the suspension was fully overhauled to factory specification and the car fitted with a useful factory-style power steering conversion.
