The arrival of the revolutionary Citroën DS in 1955 presented coachbuilder Henri Chapron with a fresh opportunity that would result in his name being forever linked with this remarkable car. In total, 1, 365 usine (factory) convertibles were made with either the DS19 or DS21 engine between 1960 and 1971, while Chapron built a further 389 of his own, the last in the mid-1970s.
This DS19 is presented in a lovely shade of dark red metallic with a Burgundy leather interior, but according to the Chapron Certificate it was delivered new finished in blue with white leather interior trim. It is also noted that the engine was replaced before the restoration process and underwent an overhaul in 2000. Notable special accessories (not fitted from new) include an additional Edison FM radio; Citroën DS neck rolls; and a centre armrest.
Purchased by the current owner in 2000, the car underwent a major restoration that same year. In 2022, ***** Gourge at KFZ-Sachverständige carried out a comprehensive assessment of the car's condition, rating it as Grade 2 out of 5 (where Grade 1 is the highest). The car has recently been serviced and is ready to bring much joy to its fortunate new caretaker.
The car comes with German registration documents and the aforementioned condition report and Chapron Certificate.
