Swiss automotive history

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Peter Monteverdi expanded his father's car repair shop into a dealership for the Ferrari, BMW, and Lancia brands. At the time, Peter Monteverdi was the youngest Ferrari dealer in the world. The company headquarters were in Binningen near Basel.

In 1965, a falling out occurred between Monteverdi and Ferrari. Peter Monteverdi subsequently decided to establish his own production of exclusive and luxurious sports and touring cars.

Between 1967 and 1982, Monteverdi produced a total of eight different vehicle types.

During the first oil crisis, sales of the heavy, thirsty sports cars declined. While competitors like Iso Rivolta and Jensen stumbled and ultimately failed, Peter Monteverdi managed to completely restructure his company and thus ultimately save it through the late 1970s.

From 1976 onwards, Monteverdi focused on the relatively new concept of luxuriously equipped off-road vehicles. These vehicles, which again combined American mass-production technology (International Harvester Scout) with elegant Italian bodies, sold extremely well in both Europe and the Near and Middle East; they reached a total production figure of four figures.

The Safari offered luxurious features that surpassed those of the Range Rover at the time, including power steering, air conditioning, and electric windows.

The 7. 2-liter variant represented the top model of the series and was considered the fastest off-road vehicle of its time.

The 7. 2-liter version was extremely rare; only about seven were produced.

Our Safari was delivered new to Germany in 1978, to a doctor in the district of Lörrach.

The doctor kept the car for over 40 years, maintained it impeccably, and only drove the Monteverdi on special occasions.

This also explains the low original mileage of only 51, 565 km.

The interior is in a condition comparable to a one-year-old car.

Large parts of the bodywork still have their original paint!

Even the nice details, such as the "The Swiss Off-Road Vehicle" sticker on the rear window and the original operating instructions, are present.

A very rare opportunity to acquire the top model of a legendary manufacturer in like-new condition.
