Description
Introducing Aubrey 003.
At its core, this is a 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4. 0L - a car already revered for its honesty. The last of the truly analogue off-roaders. Coil-sprung, mechanically simple, and powered by the indestructible 4. 0-litre straight-six. A machine that was never trying to be clever - only capable.
But capability, on its own, is rarely enough.
Under the direction of Aubrey Automobiles, this example has been subject to a complete cosmetic restoration - not to erase its character, but to elevate it. To take something inherently utilitarian and imbue it with a sense of occasion.
Finished in a deep Grigio Scuro, the paintwork gives the Wrangler an altogether more sophisticated presence. It softens the edges without diluting the attitude - a subtle shift from off-duty workhorse to something altogether more considered. More European in feel, yet no less purposeful.
Step inside, and the transformation becomes more apparent.
An entirely retrimmed interior in British leather, detailed with contrast stitching, replaces the functional factory finish with something far richer, without tipping into excess. It remains a Wrangler - upright, honest, usable — but now with a tactility and warmth that invites you to spend time in it. Bespoke cargo net detailing nods to its utilitarian roots, while quietly reinforcing the craftsmanship beneath the surface.
And then there is the matter of usability - always the defining quality of any great Jeep.
Aubrey 003 is supplied with both canvas and hardtop roof options, allowing it to shift effortlessly between open-air freedom and all-weather practicality. Beneath it, a set of Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain tyres ensure that, despite its elevated aesthetic, it remains entirely true to its purpose.
This is not a restomod in the overused sense of the word. It has not been over-engineered or stripped of identity. Instead, Aubrey 003 represents something more nuanced: a respectful evolution. A car that acknowledges what made the original great, and quietly refines it for modern sensibilities.
The result is a Wrangler that feels at home almost anywhere - parked waterside in Rye, threading through London streets, or pointed, without hesitation, towards the horizon.
A modern classic, properly understood.
