Rare 1968 kingsred automatic VW Bug
For sale Volkswagen Beetle 1300 Automatic – 1968 – Royal Red L30A
On September 6th, 1968, this beautiful Volkswagen Beetle left the factory in Wolfsburg. Just a few days later, on September 12th, 1968, it was first registered in Germany, most likely as a demonstration car at the VW dealership Fa. Alfons v. Deschwanden in Offenburg, located in the picturesque Black Forest region near the French border.
In February 1969, the car was sold to Mrs. Fritsch, who carefully drove and maintained it until 1976. After that, only a few owners followed, all from the same Offenburg area. A remarkable detail is that from 1968 until 1987, this Beetle kept the exact same original license plate: OG-KC-90. A wonderful piece of history that perfectly matches the authenticity of this car.
After disappearing from sight for some years, the Beetle resurfaced again in 2010, this time in the Sauerland region. Once again, it had spent its life in beautiful surroundings that seem straight out of an old postcard. The story of this car breathes care, calmness, and genuine enthusiasm.
This is a particularly beautiful and rare Volkswagen Beetle 1300 Automatic, finished in the highly unusual and desirable color Royal Red L30A. Several years ago, the car was comprehensively restored while carefully preserving its original character.
The specification in which this Beetle is presented today is exceptionally rare. It is the first European model year with upright headlights, combined with the seldom-seen automatic transmission. In addition, this Beetle still features the early details so appreciated by enthusiasts:
no “vents” behind the rear side windows
the early-style unpadded dashboard
a highly original interior
even the original carpet set is still present
The original 1300 cc engine producing 44 hp runs beautifully, and the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and comfortably. The car offers a relaxed and surprisingly modern driving experience for its age. Doors and lids close properly and with a solid feel.
Original accessories complete the car beautifully, including:
pop-out rear side windows
bamboo parcel shelf under the dashboard
original radio delete plate (the car never even had a radio installed)
Everything about this Beetle shows that it has always been cherished and carefully treated. In the past, many automatic Beetles fell victim to tuners because the chassis featured independent rear suspension, making them ideal candidates for lowering modifications. That makes an original and unmodified automatic Beetle like this one especially rare today.
Included with the car are:
the original 1968 German “Pappbrief”
the modern German registration documents
valid TÜV inspection until December 2027
In short: an exceptionally charming, rare, and highly original Volkswagen Beetle Automatic with a beautifully documented history.
