Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 28th May on Thursday the 28th of May. Background: By the autumn of 1991, with Porsche struggling financially and in need of fresh ideas, senior figures travelled to the Tokyo Motor Show in search of inspiration. The company was facing declining sales of the 928 and preparing to launch the 968, itself a heavily reworked version of the 944. In February 1992 Porsche began work on a completely new model to replace the ageing 928 and to stand alongside the newly launched 968. The result was the Porsche Boxster, a mid-engine two seat roadster that marked an important turning point for the brand. It was the first Porsche since the 914 to be conceived from the outset as a roadster. The first-generation Boxster, known as the 986, arrived in late 1996 powered by a 2. 5 litre flat-six engine. Its design was closely based on the Boxster concept that had wowed audiences at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show. In 2000 the entry level car was upgraded with a larger 2. 7-litre engine while Porsche introduced the more powerful Boxster S, fitted with a 3. 2-litre unit. Two years later the model received a subtle facelift. Among the changes were a smaller glass rear window in place of the earlier plastic version, a redesigned exhaust and intake system and an updated interior which added a glove compartment along with new electromechanical bonnet and boot release mechanisms. The Car: Delivered in the summer of 2002 by Porsche Wilmslow to its first owner, this Porsche Boxster is a fine example of the more powerful 3. 2-litre 'S' powered by the M96 water-cooled, flat-six displacing 3, 179cc and offering 254bhp, 0-60 in 5. 7 seconds and 164mph. It was optioned from new with Tiptronic, the five-speed automatic transmission featuring manual override controls which allows drivers to either let the car shift automatically or execute manual gear changes via steering-wheel-mounted buttons, converting the 250bhp, performance-focussed Boxster into a relaxed, commuter-friendly daily driver. The car is finished in Polar Silver Metallic, an historic, ice-chilled Porsche paint finish celebrated for its distinct cool, light blue undertones with a Metropole Blue soft top, over a classic Boxster dark blue leather interior and sits on standard 17-inch 'turbo twist' alloys covering red Porsche calipers. With just six former keepers throughout its life, this car is now offered with an indicated 63, 520 miles. We understand the Boxster's most recent owner invested some £7, 000 bringing the car up to a lovely standard both mechanically and cosmetically which sits well with the good level of service history indicating diligent ownership over the years. The cosmetic condition is good, with just minor marks on the car which correlate with the age and mileage. The alloy wheels do have a few chips and while the paint could do with a polish, there are no deep marks or scratches. The rear window in the soft top has been replaced, now giving a clear view. The interior remains in good condition with some signs of wear starting to appear, mostly on the driver’s seat bolster and the steering wheel. Despite this, the rest of the interior remains in great condition with all the electrics functioning as intended. To drive, the car feels very tight which at just over 60, 000 miles is to be expected and as a result retains the driving experience that Porsche intended and journalists praised upon its release. The engine is strong and is very willing in the 250bhp S-specification, whilst the five-speed Tiptronic box applies the power smoothly through all gears when the automatic mode is selected. It's fitted with a Cargraphic exhaust system and is supplied with a spare key Service History: Service – 15/ 6/ 03 – 4, 762 miles Service – 3/ 6/ 04 – 7, 870 miles Service – 7/ 6/ 05 – 11, 761 miles Service – 4/ 4/ 06 – 23, 620 miles Service – 14/ 5/ 07 – 27, 827 miles Service – 3/ 3/ 09 – 42, 431 miles Service – 8/ 7/ 10 – 52, 056 miles Service – 4/ 6/ 21 – 59, 584miles Service – 8/ 9/ 22 – 61, 635 miles Overall, this is a very usable example of the high-performance, first-generation variant of Porsche's mid-engine, two-seater roadster, well kept, low mileage 3. 2-litre Boxster S in a striking colour.       Location: Worcestershire Seller: Private Photography...
