After the Second World War, it’s time for reconstruction for France, its army and its industry. It is in this context that Latil and Hotchkiss joined forces to offer the Army a 4x4 vehicle.
The Latil Hotchkiss M18 T2, which came to life in 1955, is a light tactical truck, combining Latil’s 4x4 chassis with a Hotchkiss 6-cylinder engine.
Only 125 units were built and issued to the Army, the Navy, the Overseas Marines, and the Air Force. Once returned to civilian life, a few served as breakdown trucks or as forest fire-fighting vehicles.
The example on display, equipped with a mechanical winch at the rear, appears to have had a second forestry life. Not heavily worn, its odometer shows just over 13, 500 km.
It starts at the turn of the key, was downgraded to a light vehicle (drives on a Category B licence). Despite signs of corrosion, and a tank to inspect (operates with a donor supply), it remains in original condition, with a cabin canopy recently redone.
