I have owned this 1929 Flat Rad Cowley for 11 years. It was built by The Holden Company of Australia and sold by the Morris distributor Cheney of South Australia. At that time the parts were flat packed, shipped out and assembled in Australia. This Flat Rad roadster has the wider wheelbase designed for the rough Australian roads of the time. Consequently the car sits on the road much better and doesn’t look so tall and narrow as the British equivalent. The car was renovated in South Australia sometime in the 1990s. It has attended a number of Australian rallies including the All British Day and the famous Bay To Birdwood Run in South Australia. The car appears to have spent its life prior to my ownership in South Australia which meant it had no rust whatsoever when I bought it in Adelaide in 1999. The previous owner had had the car for about 10 years and he had bought it from the owner who had restored the car (see pictures). I had the car shipped back and have used the car ever since for local trips. The car has been regularly MOT’d since 1999. It has been garaged in a dehumidified garage and is still free of rust being only used on rain free days. I had a spare engine reconditioned by a member of the Bullnose Morris Club but as the original engine although tired, is still performing reasonably well; I still haven’t got around to replacing it. So the reconditioned engine has been mothballed. The Morris has a “salt and pepper” soft top with a complete set of side rain fittings (see the picture taken at the Birdwood run in Australia). The one problem here is that because I have had the hood up for so long the material probably shrunk over time and I have split the top on one side at the back (see picture) when I last put the hood down. This is the only significant blemish on the car. It’s great example of an Australian Morris Flat Rad Roadster with a dickey seat. There is a luggage carrier for the back of the car.
The Bullnose Morris Club authenticated the vehicle when it arrived in the UK 11 years ago and confirmed that all the original engine numbers etc were correct and that the car left the Morris Cowley Factory on the 26th June 1929.
My main reason for selling is that I now want to try a sports car for change.
