Description
Citroen 2CV 4×4 Sahara
This Citroën 2CV, or “Ugly Duck,” has two engines and four-wheel drive.
The rear engine, located in the trunk, is mounted backwards, and the gearboxes are connected by rods. One of the engines can be switched off, for example, to save fuel.
This “Sahara” model, introduced in 1958, was intended for expeditions in the French colonies, where four-wheel drive was necessary. Since Citroën did not have an engine powerful enough for four-wheel drive, two coupled engines were chosen. Despite the displacement of only 425 cc per engine, its off-road performance is decent.
Production was limited to 694 units, as the car was not intended for general use. Outside the colonies, the Sahara was widely used in Spain and by the Swiss postal services. Reportedly, two Sahara Ducks were even used by Rijkswaterstaat. As far as we know, about 25 examples remain worldwide.
The model presented here was delivered in Old English White and has a red-striped interior. The engine runs well, as does the shifting mechanism. The car has a used gray vinyl roof. This beautiful Sahara 2CV has French papers. It is very rare and difficult to find.
This car has French registration.
